Rock climbing is a thrill for practically anyone who enjoys a challenge. There is no other sport that can deliver the rush of adrenaline that rock climbing gives. There are several different types of rock climbing – each type will require slightly different rock climbing equipment.

Traditional rock climbing always involves at least two people: you, a partner, and the use of rope. One climber will climb over a rock, and then place the various protection equipment into the rock like nuts, hexes into the rock cracks and crevices. The rope attached to this climber is connected to the person via a harness that is worn. The other end of the rope is attached to the partner below. The first climber (the one putting the protection into the mountain) then feeds rope to the partner below through a belay device.

Sport rock climbing uses the same rope techniques that traditional rock climbers do, but there is a difference in the sports rock climbing equipment. In this situation, the protection is already in place through bolts. The climber wears a short sling with a carabineer on each end. In general, sports climbing tends to last for shorter durations and there is significantly less danger.

Another modification of climbing is called bouldering. This is where your feet are only a few feet off the ground. There is no need for any sort of rope or protection because you are only a few feet off the ground.

Solo climbing is the freest form of climbing. It’s a bit similar to bouldering, but still very different. A solar climber must commit to reaching the summit. A solo climber doesn’t use any sort of protection. Still, to ensure the best chances of survival, a solo climber must use special solo climbing equipment.

Mountaineering is another form of climbing that involves reaching the top of a mountain. A wide combination of climbing skills is used. You might find yourself if hot and humid conditions once section, then ice and cold the next section. You will need to have firm rock climbing skills and ice climbing skills.

Ice climbing requires the use of special ice climbing equipment to climb vertical walls of ice like frozen waterfalls. The main tool used is the Ice axe. Ice climbing is dangerous because ice changes from hour to hour.

Indoor climbing is a safe and fun way to learn how to climb. It’s the best way to introduce yourself to the sport of climbing without having to take the risk of an actual climb.

Climbing equipment is a vital part of any climbing sport – so make sure you do plenty of research about the exact equipment you need for you your particular climbing sport.
